About Malta
The Republic of Malta is a sovereign independent state founded on work and on respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual.
It consists of an archipelago of islands situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The islands boast of having a rich history and culture that spans over 7,500 years. Malta is considered to have one of the best climates in the world with mild winters and long, warm summers. Malta is also regarded as one of the safest countries in the world and has a remarkably low crime rate. This family-oriented culture is warm and welcoming, with the benefit of two national languages, Maltese and English.
The Government of Malta is democratically elected every 5 years and supported by a solid legal system. In 2004, Malta joined the European Union as a full Member State. The country benefits from having one to the top 50 most competitive economies in the world, which has contributed to its exceptionally low unemployment rate at just 5.7%, one of the lowest in Europe. The current main contributors to the evolving economy include: tourism, the aviation and maritime sector, film production, online gaming and a financial services sector of excellence. Malta enjoys a highly respected educational system and an excellent public health service. The Maltese International Airport is also well linked to Europe and the world and is highly reputed.
